The Visceral Company is a Los Angeles-based production company dedicated to producing theatre and films in the horror, thriller, and sci-fi genres. Founded in early 2010 around the production of the award-winning short film BUGBABY*, our primary focus is to explore these genres in live theatre, with a particular emphasis on dark, strange, and macabre themes.
Our preview production FOUR SHADOWS played an extremely limited three-night run to packed houses in July 2010. In October 2010, we presented a second evening of one-act plays entitled TALES TO DIE FOR. February 2011 saw the West Coast premiere of Scott T. Barsotti's zombie play THE REVENANTS. Summer 2011 brought Radha Bharadwaj's tale of personal and political torture CLOSET LAND, garnering our first LA Weekly Award nomination** in the process. DEAD OF NIGHT, a fully authorized, original adaptation of short stories by Stephen King followed in the fall. After moving to Hollywood from North Hollywood, our second season of thrills brought the multiple LA Weekly Award-winning THE TURN OF THE SCREW***, as well as the spooky environmental play GHOST LIGHT.
Ira Levin's VERONICA'S ROOM opened our 2013 season with a hit. Finally finding a home in the Lex Theatre in Hollywood, we produced Scott T. Barsotti's nightmarish KILL ME, musical sketch comedy show HEMOPHELIA'S HOUSE OF HORRORS, and a stage adaptation of 70s cult movie THE BABY. LOVECRAFT: NIGHTMARE SUITE, an anthology performance of H.P. Lovecraft stories, and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa's holiday horror THE MYSTERY PLAYS rounded out the year, which was ranked the overall highest rated season in Los Angeles****. 2014 is bringing more killer shows, including our first musical ZOMBIES FROM THE BEYOND and another vision of the terrors of H.P. Lovecraft.

We hope our work will encourage further onstage exploration of the underrepresented horror and sci-fi genres, and that we help build an appreciation of live theatre in the younger audiences traditionally drawn to them.
